The Oilers Beat Out Hurricanes 4-0

So here we are at the end of game six in the playoffs to bring Stanley home. Edmonton played a very good game tonight ending the game with a score of 4 nothing. Home town hero Fernando Pisani scored the first goal of the game during a power play, he then assisted Torres on the second one and the third goal was scored by Ryan Smyth and the final goal of the game was scored by Shawn Horcoff. The Oilers showed Carolina what they were made out of tonight and what to expect in game 7 on Monday night at the RBC coliseum in Carolina.
I noticed that the Hurricanes weren't taking very many shots on goal tonight with the Oilers out shooting them in all three periods of the game. You could tell by looking at the players for Carolina that they were tired, if they want this cup as badly as we do then they are going to have to pick up their game and play like they mean it.
Now as some of you may be able to recall there are only four teams in NHL history that have been able to come back from behind with a 3-1 series score and force a seventh game , it takes one heck of a team to do something like this, as you are well aware. In case you were wondering the 3 teams that have been able to come back trailing by that much are The Montreal Canadiens, in 1954, the Philadelphia Flyers, in 1987, the Vancouver Canucks, in 1994 and the only team to come from behind trailing that badly to actually force a seventh game AND win the cup was the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942 against the Detroit Red Wings.
For all we know this could be another land mark in the History of the NHL. Now as a few of you may also recall Edmonton has been a hockey club for less than 30 years and have brought Stanley home to us five times in that short time. Now granted there was an Edmonton team they just weren't called the Oilers. If you go through the history of it all Edmonton had quite a few different names before settling down with the Oilers. As well as when you go through the history you can see that the first recorded hockey game played in Alberta was on January 4, 1893. One name I never expected to find on the list of Edmonton's previous hockey name list was, believe it or not, the Edmonton Eskimos, which many of you know is our football team.
The first time Edmonton won the Stanley Cup was in 1984 against the New York Islanders, and the next year they beat out the Philadelphia Flyers for their second consecutive win of The Cup, a few years passed and they beat out the Flyers again for the Cup in 1987, as if that wasn't enough they won the Cup against the Boston Bruins in 1988 for another two in a row record. The last time the Oilers won the Cup was in 1990 in Game 5 at the Boston Garden, it was also the first time they won the Cup away from home. If they win on Monday night it will be the second time they have won the Cup in an away game. From 1990 -1997 the Oilers never won a playoff series until they beat the Dallas Stars in 1997, also in 1997 they were seized by the ATB due to financial problems of their owner Peter Pocklington, they avoided a potential move to Huston by The Edmonton Investors' Group. Those are just a few facts about the Oilers I thought I would share with you. But since I am sure you really don't want to hear anymore about Hockey I will let you go back to doing what ever it was you were doing before you decided to come and see if I had anything interested to say. Stay tuned for more on The Stanley Cup Playoffs of 2006.

One question for you..... Seeing as I know you weren't a huge hockey fan before you caught Oilers Fever, where are you finding out all of these facts and stats and whatnot???? I am a huge hockey fan and knew bits and pieces of that stuff, but learned some new stuff too....

Well Mander to answer your question Cliff and Wes were over here last night watching the game and we were talking and Cliff gave me some info about it and I looked up the Oilers history cause i forgot some of the things he told me. This series has really got me interested so who knows maybe next year I won't need Oilers Fever to sit there and watch a game without getting bored. I do have to admit you were right hockey isn't as boring as I had originally thought.
